2005 Activities

Twenty-five members and friends of Women's Voices joined more than 1,500 other marchers at the annual Gay Pride parade on Sunday, June 25. The parade attracted 92 entries and more than 5,000 spectators along Grand Ave. on a beautiful summer Sunday afternoon. This was the second year that Women's Voices participated in this parade.
Marched in the Annie Malone Parade May 21, 2006.
Participated in the May 10, 2006 Vigil for Darfur Call to Action at the Missouri History Museum, and joined the St. Louis Save Darfur Coalition
Co-sponsored a major forum on stem cell research April 30, 2006, with the St. Louis Chapter of Hadassah, the Ethical Action Committee of the St. Louis Ethical Society, and Friends of the First Unitarian Church. The forum featured a scientist and a physician from Washington University, a stem cell recipient and patient advocate, and a representative from the Missouri Coalition of Lifesaving Cures.
Collected hundreds of signatures on petitions aimed at getting the issue of restoration of Medicaid cuts on the Missouri ballot in November, 2006
Authored a position paper outlining the organization's opposition to a federal proposal to sell national forest land to fund rural schools.
Gathered more than two dozen Voices members to join with 250 supporters of the "Prevention First" legislation at a rally in downtown Kirkwood on April 1, 2006
Joined with 350 women from all across Missouri on Lobby Day (March 28, 2006) in Jefferson City, to talk to state legislators about the importance of the "Prevention First" act and other issues of reproductive choice
Joined with the Missouri conservation community, spearheaded by the Sierra Club and the League of Women Voters, in support for upcoming legislation mandating Renewable Energy Standards
Stood in vigil at the "Love Needs No Cure" rally February 25, 2006, an event designed to support the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community.
Attended the Fourth Environmental Summit of Missouri Votes Conservation in Columbia, Missouri
Joined a dozen other organizations in the "Coalition Against the War on Women" to protest Gov. Matt Blunt's attempts to deny access to birth control to Missouri women
Stood in vigil with the Eastern Missouri Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty the night before an execution (January, 2006)
