Statement On Separating Children From Their Parents At The Border

June 2, 2018

A number of troubling policies have been put into place in the United States in recent months.  None is more abhorrent than the recent practice of separating children from their parents when the adults attempt to enter the country along our southern border.

Separating children from their parents is cruel and unjust and serves no useful purpose.  It is purely punitive, damages individuals and families and speaks to the failure of creative, thoughtful, compassionate leadership in our country.

Members of Women’s Voices call upon everyone who is offended by this brutal policy to contact their legislators, the Department of Homeland Security (Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen), and the Department of Justice (Secretary Jeff Sessions).  We must demand an end to this practice, which victimizes innocent and vulnerable children and families in our name.
